There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
