Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries in addition to the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
